Receiving the VIT Person of the Year 2026 – The Weekend Leader Award was one of the most meaningful moments of my journey.
This recognition was presented for my work in Cerebral Palsy football and inclusive sports, but I see it as much more than a personal achievement. It belongs to every child with a disability who stepped onto a sports field, every parent who believed in their child, and every coach and supporter who stood beside them.
When I began working in disability sports, my focus was simple — to create opportunities for children who were often excluded from mainstream sports. Over the years, through CPSAK and our inclusive sports initiatives, I have witnessed how sport can transform confidence, participation and identity.
Standing on that stage before VIT students, the Vice Chancellor and the Chennai Income Tax Commissioner was therefore an emotional moment. It reminded me that the journey that began with a small vision has reached far beyond the sports field.
I accept this award with gratitude — and also as a responsibility to continue building more opportunities, stronger systems and a more inclusive sporting culture for persons with disabilities.
This award is not the destination. It is encouragement to keep going.
