On 14th June 2023, we brought together parents and caregivers of children with disabilities for an awareness campaign at the Mavelikara Block Resource Centre, a session focused squarely on one message: sport has a place in every child’s development, disability or not.
Many families of children with disabilities aren’t aware of the para-sports opportunities available to them, or how structured physical activity can support their child’s physical, social, and emotional growth. Our session walked parents through exactly that, what para sports look like in practice, how children with different abilities are supported and coached, and the real difference consistent participation can make in a child’s confidence, mobility, and sense of belonging.
The turnout reflected genuine hunger for this information, a room full of parents, many hearing for the first time that their children could have a real, supported pathway into sport. Conversations like these are quiet but crucial groundwork. Every parent who walks away from a session like this with a little more awareness and a little more hope is a step toward more children getting the chance to play, train, and compete.
