Age is only a number, ability is what matters everyone deserves the chance to play, and everyone deserves a stage to shine on. This belief sat at the heart of our National Girl Child Day celebrations, where our young girl footballers took center field to showcase the skills they’ve been building week after week on the training ground.
But the day wasn’t just about the girls in jerseys. We also organized special engagement activities for the grandmothers of our village inviting the older generation to step onto the same field, hold a football, and be part of the celebration alongside the children. It was a simple gesture with a bigger meaning: sport isn’t just for the young, and community isn’t built in silos. Seeing grandmothers and granddaughters share a football field, decorated with balloons and banners for the occasion, was a reminder that empowerment looks different for every generation, but it’s worth celebrating at every age.
Days like these are why we do this work creating space for girls to be seen as athletes first, and for entire communities, young and old, to come together in celebration of that.
